I'm not quite sure if I pulled this off- I meant it to look like a marble bust, but I think it probably just looks like a greyscale painting. All part of the learning process.
To me it's the detailing that takes it away from the marble effect. The hair looks like actual hair. I like the caricature though. Check out Malan's statue. I think it's a good reference of painting marble. http://brilliantanyway.blogspot.com/2009/01/done.html
I agree with what Doug says, but there is something else that is wrong, it just looks flat, and I cant put my finger on what is causing it, Im guessing the shadows must be incorrect. Say compared to your Lincoln painting which does look 3D.
