Democracy Interrupted

Haven't posted for a while so I thought I'd chip in with a piece I finished recently. This was commissioned by someone working in Afghanistan, he wanted to immortalise his time over there. His request coincided perfectly with the shambles that was the elections and the announcement of Karzai's eventual and somewhat unconstitutional victory and reelection to President. Hurrah for democracy!

Been wanting to do this one for awhile. Got some good critique on it on the ISCA site, and while I thought of changing it a little to reflect the advice, I'm just going to move on to the next one, rather than obsess about this one, because as we all know, there will ALWAYS be room for improvement.

It's cool to see all the 'fresh blood' on here doing the same exercises I did during Jason's class, some awesome work being developed here. Hopkins - Bedtime Stories - Final

Well, here is the finished illustration for my final submission on the caricature course. Little has changed in terms of structure between this and the value painting but I got to have fun working on the details such as the texture of the leather chair and the wrinkles and crease's of Lecter's face.

Signing up for the Seiler Caricature Course has been the best decision I've made in order to advance my artistic skills. Anyone reading this who is debating as to whether to give it a go, I simply say 'do it, you'll have no regrets'. Regardless of skill level or experience, Jason's instruction will improve anyone who follows it.

To the rest of my online classmates, its been great seeing you progress and its helped me push myself further. I hope to see you all publishing on here in the future.

Obama Sketch

Yesterday was a milestone in history, not just for America but for the whole world. To see a dream realised, which would have been absolutely inconceivable 40 years ago, shows us that anything is possible in this world.

I started this as a sketch, but as I was feeling inspired, I worked on it a bit more and I'm really happy with the result, I might even paint it eventually! I haven't done any political caricatures before, mainly because I mostly like to draw people who I admire in some way, and I find most politicians quite loathesome. But for me, Barack Obama is a symbol of hope, and the limitless potential in all of us. Maybe the world is coming to its senses...

Kevin Smith Caricature

Been wanting to do this one for a LONG time, and finally got around to it over the holidays. I left it black and white due to his first movie, Clerks. Based it on a scene from one of his 'An Evening With Kevin Smith' DVD's where he's eating Timbits (an Canadian donut delicacy) and cursing them.
